Farewell PreK!

Wow! What an awesome year! I cannot believe that it is already time to say goodbye to all of our friends. We have had an awesome year and we have learned so much! Below is a slideshow of some of my favorite memories.

Also this week, we said goodbye to our helper from Liberty High, Miss Lyndsi. Our class made Miss Lyndsi a special gift and gave to her on Wednesday. Congratulations Miss Lyndsi and good luck in all your future endevors!





Next week is our last week of school! We will be sending home student work and progress reports. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding this. Also, we will be sending home file folder games with several students to practice matching and identifying colors/shapes over the summer. As always...we look forward to another fun week with your children!

5 Little Monkeys...

We have had a blast learning all about zoo animals over the past two weeks. Check out the pictures below of some of last week's activities.





This week was also Teacher Appreciation Week. Each classroom was given a solider helper for the day. We were also given a wonderful luncheon by the cafeteria and office staff. A big THANK YOU to Dr. Bush and Dr. Mobley for a woderful lunch!







Next week we will be learning all about ocean animals! On Friday, we will be doing several water activites outside, so please send an extra change of clothes for your little one.  We will also continue to review our colors, shapes, and ABC's.

Remember, Progress reports will be sent home on May 21st. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me via phone or email. Also, our last day of school is Thursday, May 24th. I will send more information regarding our end of the year clebration next week. As always, thank you for the opportunity to work your amazing children!

Click, Clack, Moo!

This week we learned all about farms! We read the story Click, Clack, Moo! by Doreen Cronin, played a farm game on the SMARTboard, and made several farm animal crafts including sheep, pigs, and chickens. Check out the pictures below of our kidd-o's learning all about farms!

Next week we will continue learning about farms. We will read another story by our favorite author, Doreen Cronin, Giggle, Giggle, Quack! Check out the video below for a sneek peak!


Also, next week, we will be preparing for Spring Fling and PreK registration. We will be sending home lots of information regarding these two events, so please check your child's folder daily.

FYI:
  • Spring Fling will be Friday, April 27th from 4:00-7:00 PM. Bring your whole family for a fun afternoon filled with food, games, and fun! Tickets are $0.50 each.
  • If you are interested in donating items for Spring Fling, we are still in need of the following:
    • 2 Liter Sodas/Drinks (unopened drinks only)
    • Empty Baby Food Jars (glass preferred, but will accept platstic - Must include lids)
    • For questions regarding any other items that you would like to donate, please contact Ms. Kelly at (912) 876-0773.
  • PreK Registration for next year will be Saturday, April 28th from 8:00AM to 12:00PM. You must register your child on this day if you intend for them to attend our PreK program next year. Please bring the following items:
    • Original Birth Certificate
    • Original Social Security Card
    • Immunization Record (Form 3231)
    • Eye, Ear, Dental Screening (Form 3300)
    • Photo Identification of Parent or Legal Guardian
    • (2) Proofs of Address
      one current month utility bill
          gas
          water
          electric
          cable/satellite system
          home alarm system

                    AND proof of home ownership:    current lease
          residential property tax statement or bill
          warranty or quit claim deed

Welcome Back!

Welcome Back! I hope that everyone had a fun Spring Break! We had a great week, getting back into the routine of school. This week we learned all about baby animals and the letter O. We read the story 5 Little Ducks and played a duck matching game. Check out the pictures below of our kidd-o's playing the game!







Next week, we will be learning all about farms and farm animals. We will read the story Click, Clack, Moo! Cows that Type by Doreen Cronin and talk about the letter U.

Spring is here!

We have had a busy month so far! We celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday with a birthday party complete with green eggs and ham, enjoyed an exciting  St. Patrick's day parade, and welcomed spring with units on bugs and flowers! Check out the pictures below of some of our March activities.

Next week we will continue talking about spring, including bugs and flowers. We will read the story Grow Flower, Grow! by Lisa Bruce. We will do several fun activities including painting pots, planting flowers, and making dirt cake!

Our letter focus will be on letter I, with vocaulary words invitation, iguana, igloo, and ice cream. We will also continue working on identifying and writing our name.

FYI:
  • Congratulations to Mrs. Taylor on being selected as one of the 10 finalist for Georgia Teacher of the Year! We are so proud of you!
  • We will be having an Easter Egg Hunt next Thursday. If you would like to donate plastic eggs and candy for this activity, please see Mrs. Oakley or Mrs. Taylor.
  • PreK Registration will be April 28th from 8:00AM until 12:00PM. You must register if you anticipate that your child may recieve any time the the regular education setting next year. Click here for further details.
  • Spring Fling will be April 27th from 4:00-7:00 PM...come out for some food and fun!
  • Donations of recycled paper towel rolls, toliet paper rolls, and sandwich bags would be greatly appreciated!

Next week we will be learning all about Dr. Seuss! We will read several of his books, including The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, and 1 Fish 2 Fish Red Fish Blue Fish. We will make red and blue fish with our hand prints, try some green eggs, practice counting using colorful goldfish, make hats like the Cat in the Hat wore, and many more fun activities. On Friday, we will be celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday with cupcakes and party games! If you would like to donate any items for our party, please see Mrs. Oakley or Mrs. Taylor.

We LOVE PreK!

What a great week! We learned all about the letter Q...reading words such as queen, quarter, and quilt. We also read the story, Jack and the Beanstalk. Our kids had lots of fun walking around like a giant and yelling "Fe Fi Fo Fum!". On Thursday, we had class picture day! Our kidd-o's did a great job using their best manners to take our class picture. On FUN Friday, our kids made Valentine's for their parents/guardians. Look for those to come home next Tuesday!

Next week, we will be learning all about Valentine's Day. We will read the story Happy Valentine's Day Mouse by Laura Numeroff and make valentines for our friends. Our Valentine Party will be on Tuesday, Feb. 14th. Please feel free to send Valentines from your child for each of the students. Because of confidentiality, I can not send a list of student's names home, however I can let you know that we have 10 students in each session. During our party, we will be decorating valentine cookies, playing with pink and red shaving cream, and making valentine bags. As always, Ms. Lowe and I look forward to spending another week with your AWESOME children!

Frosty Fun!

We have had an awesome time learning all about winter this month! We learned about winter weather and winter clothing. We played in snow and used puffy paint to make snow pictures. We ended our fun with marshmallow snowmen! View the slideshow below to see some of our winter fun!

Next week, we will continue reading traditional stories. We will read Jack and the Beanstalk. Our literary focus will be on the letter Q.

February will be full of fun, as we learn all aboutt numbers, Valentine's day, and Dr. Seuss. Our Valentine Party will be Feb. 14th. Be on the look out for more information regarding our party.

W is for Winter!

Brrrrr! It's been a cool week here at PreK! We learned all about the letter W and practiced vocabulary words such as waffle, wagon, window, watermelon, and winter. We also talked about winter weather and what types of clothing we wear when it is cold outside. We played a clothing sorting game on the Smartboard and made winter clothing collages out of magazine pictures. We also practiced counting mittens, snowmen, and snowflakes. Next week we will be celebrating the 100th day of school! It is hard to believe that we have already been in school for 100 days...Spring Break will be here before we know it! As part of our celebration, we will doing all sorts of counting! Check out the video below to practice counting at home with your child!


Next week our literacy focus will be on the letter Y.We will also continue reading nursery rhymes such as Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, Old Mother Hubbard, and Little Miss Muffet. Click HERE to play a nursery rhyme game from Sesame Street.



FYI-
  • Monday, January 23rd, is the 100th day of School!
  • Developmentally Appropriate Practices Workshop will be Thursday, January 26th from 6:00-7:00 PM. The Special Education Department will be leading this parent training, so if you have any questions regarding your child's development, this would be a great workshop to attend.
  • Check your child's folder daily for important classroom and school information.
  • If your child has an accident at school, please be sure to send another change of clothes in their bookbag the next school day.
  • Please label all hats, jackets, bookbags, etc.

Welcome Winter!

Happy New Year and Welcome back to PreK. Ms. Lowe and I hope that you and your family had a wonderful holiday season and a restful break. With that said, we are back in full swing here at PreK. This week we worked on transitioning back to our school routine. We practiced walking in a line, sitting for small group and large group activities, and following simple directions like raising our hand. We also reviewed our colors, shapes, and ABC’s. Check out the videos below to review these concepts with your child at home.







Next week we will be learning all about nursery rhymes and the letter W. We will read rhymes like Humpty Dumpty, Jack and Jill, and Baa Baa Black Sheep. We will also continue to learn about winter, specifically winter clothing. We will read the story The Mitten by Jan Brett and make a collage of winter clothing.

FYI –
  • Remember, there will be no school on January 16th in observance of MLK Day! Have a great long weekend!
  • As we are in the middle of cold and flu season, donations of Kleenex and Hand Sanitizer would be greatly appreciated.
  • Remember to label all of your child’s belongings. This includes book bags, jackets, hats, mittens, extra clothes, etc.
  • If your child is not yet potty trained, please make sure that you include pull-ups and wipes in your child’s book bag daily.
  • Remember, if your child has a fever, vomits, or diarrhea at school they will be sent home. Please do not send your child back to school until they have been symptom free for 24 hours. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
  • We will be celebrating the 100th day of school on Monday, January 23rd!
